Easy Easyjet

Posted by Carambs

My friends and I were supposed to take the train from Barcelona to Paris. The idea was to combine our transportation and accomodation fees into 1. Hey, can’t blame us, the Euro is expensive! We tried to purchase tickets 2 days before our flight to Barcelona from an official representative, the Adventure International Tours, which has a branch in SM Megamall. For some reason, they couldn’t book tickets for us - though there were several seats left, the system kept resulting in errors.

We had to come up with Plan B.

We discussed our options - Easyjet and Ryanair. Mona already tried Easyjet the year before, so even if the schedule meant we will only have 1 1/4 days in Paris, we decided to go for it. The ticket was 189 Euro per person.

Mona purchased the e-tickets for the four of us. She made sure we had speedy boarding, which meant we had to pay an extra 3 Euro per person. This was reasonable, especially since Easyjet uses free seating.

Checking in was relatively easy. There were many open counters, so we didn’t have to wait long. The airplane was clean, the flight attendants were friendly, and the handling of the luggages was fine. Snacks were not free, but this is generally accepted with budget airlines.

When I go back, I will not hesitate to use Easyjet again. I think it’s even a blessing that we were not able to take the train. Yes, we spent more, but it wasn’t a tiring journey and we didn’t have to lug around our big bags.

KLM

Posted by Carambs

We flew KLM when we went to Europe last week. I didn’t have a choice because the airfare was paid for by the office. I didn’t know what to expect - I just knew that KLM was a 3-star airline (according to Skytrax) and that if I had a choice I would have chosen Qatar Airways, based on the reviews and a friend’s experience.

Well, overall, it was okay. The flight attendants were pleasant - not as friendly and accomodating as Asian flight attendants, but pleasant nonetheless. Each seat had personal screens, and the available entertainment was updated. I got to watch some relatively new movies such as License to Wed, Knocked Up, and Hairspray. There were also several episodes of my favorite TV shows such as Friends, Heroes and Grey’s Anatomy. The food I can say was diverse - even the trays and containers were different during each meal. I think the headrests were brilliant - no more stiff necks and no more invading the personal space of the people beside you.

My one and only complaint is the process for checking in, and to be honest, I’m not sure if it’s KLM’s or NAIA’s fault. It was chaos! There were no clear lines, and there were no clear instructions that everyone should go through visa checking first. It took us almost 2 hours to check in our luggages and go through immigration. Crazy!

I wouldn’t discourage anyone from taking KLM. If given a choice between KLM and Singapore Airlines (economy), I might even choose it for the savings because there’s no major difference, based on my experience.  (I flew Singapore Airlines to the US 2 years ago.)
